13 Jun Noooo….Skype calls to have advertising!
Nothing lasts forever but I’m sure Skype fans were hoping Microsoft took a little longer to pillage what has been for years, an excellent advertising free service.
On Wednesday the company announced, in typically PR spun upbeat copy, that it is “excited” to introduce a new ad service as a way for marketers to reach its hundreds of millions users in a place where they can have “a meaningful conversation about brands”. (Blerghhhhhh PR vomit!)
What this translates to for those Skype users that don’t have a subscription or Skype Credit is adverts will start to display in 1:1 Skype-to-Skype audio calls made with Skype for Windows. I imagine it’s only a matter of time before Macs and smartphones are added to the revenue stream.

Mmmmmmm nothing like seeing your loved ones face replaced with an advert for an ice-cream.
