An epic Australian adventure takes shape!

An epic Australian adventure takes shape!

It’s been a dream of mine to traverse our gigantic continent.  I’ve seen the east coast a few times and even motorbiked around Tassie but visits to the Northern Territory and Western Australia have remained absent from my travel itinerary….. until now.

A year ago I imagined I’d be in Canada, buried under layers of fleece and enjoying mulled wine.  Instead I’ve swapped the snowy rugged mountains of British Columbia for dreams of red ochre dust, desert roads and ancient indigenous culture.

the journey2The trip in total will take around 3 months and is 13,000km give or take the odd wrong turn and the time I leave my wallet on the bar in the pub.  I’ll be travelling with my girlfriend Natalie a registered nurse (going to come in handy at some point you’d think) and an accomplished photographer.

The trip will take in some of the most remote and beautiful parts our country including the Flinders Ranges, Oodnadatta Track, MacDonnell Ranges, Alice Springs, the Kimberly, Pilbara, Midwest and Southwest Western Australia, Nullarbor, Eyre Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road.

Travelling in a 2008 Jayco Stirling Outback being towed by a 2004 Toyota Landcruiser we’re looking forward to meeting the colourful crazies of the Australian outback and our fellow travellers be they grey, brown or blonde nomads.  We will be hiking in some of Australia’s most beautiful country and driving, biking, diving and laughing our way around the rest.

Next week the van get’s dropped into the Award RV Superstore in Ferntree Gully to have solar panels, a stone guard and a few other bits and pieces installed.  I serviced my last two caravans with these guys and have always found them to be exceptionally helpful.  I’m looking forward to seeing the van expedition ready!

More soon!!  🙂
